Starting production I wanted to used seductive body posture and form to portray vulnerability. I accentuated the suggestiveness of each body by cropping the images in specific ways. Each face is also cropped or covered to portray that they are blinded by the beauty surrounding them, and the loss of identity due to their materialistic nature. To further emphasise the feeling of no identity the background images are siteless, creating different interpretations of the narrative.
Each page is isolated from each other by connecting layer and colour, making each piece individually different. But there is a common motif that ties the pages together to make a cohesive zine. This being the cherubs that float between few pages. Cherubs have different connotations then angels even though they are seen as angelic creatures. They are portrayed as children, innocent and rosy-faced. They are also guardian spirits of God, making the close connection to heavenly bodies portrayed through the pieces.
Moving forward I was challenged to keep the graphic style but add personal elements to push the conceptual layout. All photos in foreground are from my camera roll, specific photographs where I am experiencing pure happiness. This is because I believe that pure happiness is the most vulnerable state as it can be so rare and fragile. The glitched cropped photos are to further portray the fragility of memories and happiness. To abstract the design each page has only one or two photos on it, but copied multiple times. Playing with scale, proportion and rotation I was able to distort the design and layer the concept.
I have kept the backgrounds siteless again, because personally when I reminisce on happy memories or experiences, I don't remember where I was but more who I was with. All backgrounds depict a sunset, which also adds to the connotations that depict conflict of vanity and vulnerability. Sunsets are a symbol of beauty and time, but can be juxtaposed with negative connotations of this. Sun sets, light fades, forces of darkness presents itself.
